There Are Both Compulsory and Recommeneded Vaccinations for Puppies

Though there is a degree of controversy regarding the use of immunizations in puppies, most states and local communities have specific laws and regulations regarding whether or not to get a puppy vaccinated.  Some cities have strong recommendations regarding which vaccinations should be administered, however, most states throughout the U.S. require that puppies are vaccinated against rabies. 

Before choosing a puppy, make certain to check with your local department of animal control and services to determine what vaccines are required by law and which ones are suggested.

In addition to laws regarding whether or not to vaccinate there are also state laws that govern how frequently vaccines should be administered.  The rabies vaccine is seen as the most important as unlike other immunizations that may pertain to the health of the dog, rabies is seen as a public health concern and dogs with rabies pose an extreme threat to society.

There may be some people who question whether or not giving puppies vaccinations is a helpful as most veterinarians say, but it should be realized that those who do not vaccinate may find their puppies vaccinated against their will if there is a matter of public concern or safety at hand.  Many states will also fine owners for not registering or vaccinating their puppies according to the local laws and ordinances.

There are many people, including a growing number of veterinarians, who are becoming increasingly concerned about the frequency in which vaccinations are administered.  As these concerns increase, including the worry about the long term effect of frequent vaccinations in adult dogs, many states are changing their laws regarding when vaccinations should be administered.  Due to growing controversy many makers of vaccines are increasing the effectiveness of vaccines so that fewer doses are required over the lifespan of a dog.

All dogs are vulnerable to developing side effects from vaccinations.  Dogs that have had previous reactions should be under the advice and care of a veterinarian and it is possible that future vaccinations may not be given.  Speak to your veterinarian about the dangers and possible consequences that may result in dog’s who’ve previously had side effects and complications from vaccines and discuss your options to ensure your dog remains healthy.
